Can you help us to solve this important challenge?

The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency is pleased to announce that it has been selected to participate in an exciting government initiative aimed at challenging Australian businesses to help develop innovative solutions for government.

Read about our challenge here.

Under the Business Research and Innovation Initiative (BRII), Australian start-ups and small and medium businesses are invited to submit proposals for ideas that address regulatory challenges – in our case, the need for real-time and accurate asbestos testing.

Date: Thursday May 6 | Time: 11am – 12noon (AEST)

The Business Research and Innovation Initiative (BRII) Regulatory Technology Round can provide:

  • grants of $50,000 to $100,000 for regulatory technology project feasibility studies, and if successful,

  • up to $1 million for developing a proof of concept.

Know a business or organisation that might want to participate?

Send this email to them today.

The challenge is to overcome existing technical limitations and deliver a solution that is non‑destructive (i.e. not removing, drilling or disturbing materials to test) and of course, meets regulatory requirements.

Finding a solution to this challenge has the potential for a large market uptake.

Current potential end-users range from professionals working directly in asbestos management and tradespeople encountering asbestos as part of their work, to the general public working on home renovations. The solution would also help governments and businesses meet their work health and safety duties to manage asbestos in buildings or infrastructure.

To learn more, access the Fact Sheet about the agency’s regulatory challenge to find a solution to real time and accurate asbestos testing.

Applications for this grant round close on 3 June 2021.

Anyone with a good idea is strongly encouraged to apply for the opportunity to not only test the feasibility of the idea but potentially develop a prototype for what my turn out to be a game changing product for Australian businesses.
