This paper considers the existing regulation for the management of asbestos in the UK.
Our contention is that the UK lags behind the regulatory practice of other countries, like France, and that this is contributing to high death rates from unnecessary exposure to airborne asbestos.
We examine the role of air monitoring, when and how it is done, the technology used, and the control levels adhered to. We provide recommendations for how the management of asbestos can be brought in line with international best practice.
